Saturday 15th September -Mountain Marathon (MMM) Score Event- Mournes, Co. Down.
Well done to club junior David Burns and dad Charles on completing the 1 day score event at the Mournes Mountain Marathon.
The Score Event has a 6 hour time limit of which competitors (in pairs) must navigate their way through the Mournes checking into as many control points as possible (control points vary in value so a plan of navigation is crucial). This is a physical and mental challenge as the terrain is tough, weather not always kind and map navigation skills are critical.
Saturday & Sunday 15th/16th September- Mourne Mountain Marathon (MMM) 2 Day Event- Mournes, Co. Down.
Newry AC athletes- Noel Carr, Cathal McGreevy, Eamon McConvey and Kevin Murdock all competed in the 2 Day Event. The event which started at Attical GAC covers set control points throughout the Mournes that must be checked in.
The competitors then have to set up camp over night at a set grid reference on their map which was in Happy Valley. After a very blustery and wet night of which proved eventful for some tent tenants, the 2nd day of competition began. Noel, Eamon and Kevin battled round the course and should be proud of their efforts. Unfortunately, the final results were not available at time of writing the report.
