NIMRA "Dan Whites Dander" - Kilbroney Forest Park
On Saturday, Newry AC in conjunction with NIMRA organised the inaugural "Dan Whites Dander" mountain race.

Despite the forecast threat of a stormy morning the final round of the NI mountain racing championships was held in glorious weather. The six mile route took the runners past the Cloughmore Stone and on to the summit of Knockshee mountain, then to the Nurses Cottage near Kilfeaghan and the steep return leg to the summit of Sl Martin overlooking Rostrevor and to the finish line at Cloughmore car park.

Newry AC athletes were in the thick of the action right from the start and at the finish Maurice Harte, Rory Mulvaney and Esther Dickson came home in third, fourth and fifth places and all within 2 seconds of each other and just 2 minutes behind the overall winner, Oisin Brennan from Springwell Running Club.
Esther's fine run was enough for her to take the ladies prize and seal her position as NI champion and the preeminent mountain runner in NI. Despite a navigation error, Warren Cartmill came home in 20th place, Ciara Coffey did enough to finish second in her category and Charles Burns completed the course in 49th place.

The overall male and female winners were presented with the Pat Dunbarr trophies. Pat who was a local outdoor legend passed away last year and Newry AC were delighted to host this race in his memory and were further delighted when Pats wife, Winifred, attended the prize giving and presented the trophies to the overall winners. Newry AC would like to thank the army of volunteers that assisted and made this inaugural race a success and to club sponsor Mulvaney Corporate Services for their continued support.
