Slieve Gullion mountain race on Saturday was a breakthrough event for Newry AC. New signing Maurice Harte won, by a margin of one second from his Newcastle AC rival!
Esther Dickson, completed the historic double by finishing first lady, and was so strong that she beat most of the men, crossing the line in 5th place overall. Paul Le Blanc was 6th, which was enough to win his age category.

Newry AC had plenty of finishers in the top ten, essential to challenge for team honours. A huge achievement for the club who will now want to carry this momentum forward into the Hill and Dale series which starts this week.
Cathal Mcgreevy, on the same day, competed in the Cooley Legends half marathon and finished a highly credible 13th.
A couple of days beforehand, Bangor saw the opening track and field event. Competing over slightly unusual distances, and usual cold wind, Joanne McCauley was fastest F40 in the 150m with 23 sec. Her daughter Meadow ran 1:56 over 600m while Lee Maginnis crossed the line in 1:39. Finally, in the long jump, youth had to give way to experience as Joanne pipped Meadow by 2cms!
