Write a commentThe firmus Energy Newry City Festival of Water is set for this Sunday 27th August with many events and activities based around the Albert Basin area of the city although if you want to enter for the Triathlon you better get on your bike as you only have up until this Friday to do so.
As well as the main firmus energy triathlon comprising of a 750m open water swim in Newry Canal, followed by a 20km closed road cycle culminating in a 5km flat run that takes in key attractions around the City the festival will see a number of family activities on offer, including the Bath Tub Race, Water Zorbing, kayaking, Canadian Canoes, Banana Boats, Chip & Dip, street performers, live music and food.
The lead partner in this year’s event is the Newry Business Improvement District (BID), which is a local, democratically elected organisation aimed at delivering projects, which will improve the local trading environment of the City.
Newry Triathlon Club will also be on hand to organise Sunday’s main event, the Firmus energy triathlon, regarded as the fastest sprint triathlon in Ireland.
Eamonn Connolly, Manager of Newry BID said “Newry BID is delighted to be organising the Firmus energy Newry City Triathlon as the highlight of our wider Festival of Water. We know the competitors enjoy the fast course and we believe the family activities planned will make it a great day out in Newry for all”.
Firmus energy have extended their support to include the full day festival, which will be extended out to include even more of the City. Paul Stanfield, Director of Sales, Marketing & Customer Operations at Firmus energy commente “We are delighted to continue our involvement with the Firmus energy Newry triathlon and the wider Firmus energy Newry City Festival of Water which will be a great family day out. We have been active in the City since 2007 and we are pleased to see this event grow year on year.
Last year’s triathlon was a great success and we look forward to collaborating with BIDs, Newry Triathlon Club, the local council and many local businesses who are all working together to make this festival a success for the City of Newry”.
