After a promising start to their cup campaign last week against Portadown, Newry hosted Mossely on Saturday.
Right from the off the visitors seemed to be first to every ball and quicker to the tackle, forcing the home side back in the opening exchanges. It wasn't long until they went in front after being awarded a penalty stroke after a short corner was stopped on the line by a Newry foot, which was converted.
Newry managed to get back on level terms with Keith McWilliams scoring after good work from Neil McKnight on the right hand side.
Both sides were showing intent while attacking but neither could find the break through until just before half time with Mossely scoring after some loose defending.
The visitors again shot out of the trap in the second half catching Newry cold as they scored their third goal early on. Newry seemed to drop their heads and the visitors were playing through the home sides lines with ease. Mossely, scored 3 quick fire goals with Newry down to 10 men to seal a convincing win against. Newry will need a far superior performance next week as they travel to Kilkeel in the next match of the cup.

Newry 2nds took on Mossely in their first home game of the season and came away with the spoils in a solid performance.
Newry started brightly and could have been one up early in after being awarded a penalty stroke, however McCaigue could not convert.
Simon McCafferty however did give the home side the lead with a opportunistic first time strike from a cross McCullough.
Mossely pressed for the equaliser and would have found in only to be stopped by Josh Porter who was in outstanding form as he pulled off an amazing four saves in a row from a Mossely short corner.
In the second half Newry showed more ruthlessness In front of goal as Mccafferty got his second of the game. This seem to give the Belfast Road more confidence as they started spreading the ball around the pitch with more pace and accuracy. Just before the end Adam Foster got on the score sheet after showing some great composure in the circle before slide the ball between the keepers legs to make it three nil and close the game out.
