Newry hosted North Down on Saturday still unbeaten in their league campaign this season.  North Down started off brightly but the homse side absorbed the pressure well and took the lead ten minutes in with John Taylor continuing his rich vein of goal scoring recently.  Newry kept North Down pinned in their half but a lapse of concentration let the away side back into the game and at half time it was one apiece.  The home side totally dominated the second half and got the lead again when veteran Richard nummy rounded the kepper and slotted home.  Newry where good for their lead and North Down could not get a out of their half.  However Newry again went to sleep and poor marking led to North getting the equaliser.  Newry then went for the game but their finishing was not up to the build up play, with only two minutes left poor defending led to North getting a short which they duely took.  It looked like they had bagged all three points, but right from the push back Newry went up the other end a won a short corner of their own and Colin McKnight was on hand to get Newrys thrid to keep their unbeated start to the season going.  Newry travel to Ballynahinch next weekend.

Newry 2’s with their first 3 points of the season in the newly promoted league

The game started pretty evenly with both teams feeling each other out with few short corners being produced.  Mossely struck half way through the first half with a lucky strike which hopped on the pitch over the Newry goalkeepers pads.  Newry went in to the half time break feeling hard done by.  Second half begun with Mossely growing in confidence until Newry could get a foothold back in the game.  When Newry finally did start playing again in the second half they never looked back creating some great chances 2 of which Keith McWilliams took.  The first a low hard shot from top of the circle and the second a converted cross from veteran Nigel McGuffin.  Newry will be hoping they can know build on this performance try and collect some valuable points in their next few games.
