Athlete Nigel McCullough recently competed for Team Ireland in the European Duathlon championships. Held in Rumia Poland 2025 on 26 and 27 April, around 500 athletes from all over Europe took part.
The Newry Triathlon Club member competed in the championships Sprint race
Starting on a beautiful sunny morning McCullough explains "The first 5km was tough, a very fast pace, I was mid pack. Next I transitioned to the cycle leg of 20km on a draggy course with a fast return route. I touched wheels in a 20 plus group and was lucky not to come off. I continued after losing time with the final transition a run of 2.5 km."
McCullough picked up a few places in the final transition, finishing 14th.
