The Third Annual Michael O Hare Charity Cycle took place on Sunday 22nd September starting and finishing at Newry Fire Station. Over 250 cyclists of varying abilities congregated at the firehouse on Edward Street to a fantastic welcome from the hosts and organisers Newry Fire Service.
Tea, coffee and buns were on offer for the riders before they tackled a choice of two routes one at fifty miles and another covering some twenty five miles.
The shorter route took in a loop including Jerretspass Poyntzpass and Scarva and back to Newry with the longer cycle heading for Poyntzpass, Tandragee, Markethill, Keady, Newtownhamilton and home to Newry for a hot shower and even more refreshments back at the firehouse.
Deirdre Shields and her crew served up the tea and coffee and indeed Deirdre's beloved charity Newry Gateway Club benefitted from the proceeds of the event along with the St Vincent De Paul.
All in all it was yet another fine event run by the Newry Firehouse Wheelers who have now raised many thousands of pounds for local charities and as the years pass on their Bike For Mike Cycle seems to be going from strength to strength.
