Play it again plan could see Armagh advance in Championship

After a decision from the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee it seems like Armagh and Laois footballers will have the opportunity to do it all again following a substitute error at last Saturday's opening senior football qualifier game in Portlaoise. An Armagh win in the replay would certainly be a nightmare for Laois.

Laois won the game on the day with a 1:10 to 0:10 scoreline but they had used seven substitutes instead of the maximum six, the seventh arriving on to the field in injury time.

In a short statement the committee stated

“Following an enquiry from the CCC arising from the Round 1A Football Qualifier between Laois v Armagh on Saturday June 18, it has been confirmed that one extra substitute was used by Laois in error.

“CCCC have proposed in accordance with rule, that this game should be replayed on Saturday July 2 at 3.0 in Portlaoise.

“Laois have accepted this proposal.”
