U21 Boys
Our U21 boys suffered a seven-point defeat in their opening game in this year’s competition, losing 1 – 13 to 1 – 6 to St Enda’s in Grange. However, the result could have been different as the Shane’s squandered no less than nine gilt-edge goal opportunities, including missed penalty, through a combination of poor shooting, poor decision making in front of goal and some great goalkeeping from the opposing keeper.
The Shane’s trailed by 1 – 7 to 0 – 0 coming towards the end of the first-half before late points from Padraig Magee and Matthew Girvan saw them go into the half-time break eight in arrears. St Enda’s got the opening point of the second-half but the Shane’s scored 1 – 4 without reply to get back to within two points of St Enda’s, the scores coming from Matthew Girvan, Donal Austin and Padraig Magee. This was as good as it got for the Shane’s as St Enda’s got the last five points of the game to claim the win, 1- 13 to 1 – 6.
Next up for the lads is a home game against Tir na nÓg next weekend where they will be hoping for a better performance.

Minor Girls
It was disappointment for our minor ladies on Sunday afternoon, losing out to a very good Armagh Harps team in the semi-final of the championship. After a nip and tuck first-half the Shane’s went into the half-time interval only three points in arrears but a real blitz from Armagh Harps in the opening ten minutes of the second period all but won them the game. However, credit must go to the young Shane’s girls as they battled hard right until the final whistle and registered the last two scores of the game. The Shane’s scorers on the day were: Shauna Reavey 2 – 0, Sorcha McDonnell 1 – 3, Sinead McDonnell 0 – 1, Rachel McCabe 0 – 1, Lia Robb 0 – 1.
Well done to all the girls and their management team on a very good season and they can all now take a well-deserved break.
