Our senior men begin their 2016 league campaign with a tough fixture away to Middletown this coming Friday evening.
Senior Ladies
Our senior ladies will train on Monday evening in St Pauls at 6.45pm before beginning their 2016 league campaign with a trip to Clann Eireann this coming Wednesday, 13th April. All players are asked to meet at Shanes for 5.30pm. In preparation for the game the senior ladies had a comfortable win over an understrength Lisummon team last Wednesday in a challenge game.
Minor Boys
It was a disappointing start to the league campaign last Monday night, going down by seven points at home to Dromintee, 2 – 12 to 2 – 5.
The sides were level midway through the first-half at 1 – 2 to 0 – 5 with Matt Girvan (1-1) and Eamon McCabe (0 – 1) on target for the home side. However, Dromintee scored a further 2 – 5 without reply to lead by eleven at the break.
The Shanes had the better of the second-half scoring a further 1 – 3 to their opponents’ two points but left themselves with too much to do. The Shanes scorers in the second-half were Damian O’Hagan (1 – 0), Eamon McCabe (0 – 1), Ciaron McMullan (0 – 1) and Matt Girvan (0 – 1).
Next up is a home game against Pearse Ogs on Monday night with training on Sunday morning at 10.30am.
Minor Ladies
Training for our minor ladies continues on Monday evening at 6.45pm in St Pauls.
U16 Boys
Our U16 boys team who, this year are amalgamated with Corrinshego as St Malachys, began their season last Thursday night with a well-earned draw against Ballyhegan.
Playing with the breeze in the first half St Malachys started brightly and opened up an early three point lead. Ballyhegan came back strongly and shortly before half-time netted from the penalty spot to lead by four at the break.
The second half was nip and tuck with both sides picking off some great scores. With five minutes remaining Ballyhegan held a five point advantage but St Malachys showed tremendous spirit and as time ran down they hit 1-2 without reply to see the game all square at 4 – 10 apiece.
This was an encouraging performance from these young players with every one of them putting in a huge effort throughout. Next up for the lads is a trip to Middleton next Thursday evening.
U16 Girls
Following weeks of training our U16 girls have their first league game on Monday night against Carrickcruppen at 7.00pm and all girls are asked to meet at 6.30pm.
U14 & U12 Girls
Training for both these age groups continues every Saturday morning at 11.00am in St Pauls small field.
U6s
Training continues every Wednesday evening at 6.00pm in Bessbrook Community Centre.
Camogie
The U14 camogs have a match at home on Tuesday, 12th April and are all girls are asked to be at the club for 6.15pm. Training for U8, U10 and U14 camogs continues on Wednesday evenings at the club.
The camogie club are holding a bucket collection on Saturday, 23rd April and everyone is asked to help out on the day.
A sponsored walk will take place on Wednesday, 27th April. The walk will leave the club at 6.45pm to Camlough Lake before returning to the club-house.
Executive Committee Meeting
The next full executive committee meeting will take place in the club on Monday night, 11th April at 9.00pm. All committee members and club officers are asked to attend.
Lotto
Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 2, 6, 7 & 17. There were no jackpot winners and 1 x match three winner. The jackpot now stands at £2900.
Pave The Way
Work on concreting the drive-way around the club has been completed. However, it is not too late to take part in the scheme and anyone still wishing to contribute £50 to buy a metre of concrete is asked to do so within the next two weeks. The sign acknowledging everyone who donated to the scheme will be going up shortly now that the work has been completed. The club would like to thank everyone who has already contributed...your support is greatly appreciated.
Condolences
Everyone at the club would like to offer their sympathies to the family of Kathleen Mooney who sadly passed at the week-end. Mrs Mooney was the mother of our former senior footballers Noel and Tommy, mother-in-law of our current U14 boys manager Liam Moan and grandmother to our former players Kevin and Ciarán Moan. May she rest in peace.
