All roads lead to Corrigan Park, Belfast next Sunday 30th October when our senior ladies take on Kinawley from County Fermanagh in the Ulster Intermediate Championship Final. The game will throw-in at 12.30pm. Corrigan Park is the home of the St John's club and is located on the Whiterock Road.
We are encouraging everyone associated with the club - members (past and present), players (past and present), coaches, parents and everybody else - to go to the final to cheer the girls on and to bring plenty of colour with them.
Over the years this group of girls have been tremendous ambassadors for the club, winning a total of 26 titles in 9 years and will hopefully add another one on Sunday 30th October.
The club is planning to run a supporters bus to the final depending on the number of people interested in travelling on it. Anyone interested in travelling on the bus please contact Aoibhín Osborne asap to secure your place.
U21s
Our U21s began the defence of their Intermediate Championship title with an emphatic 3 – 18 to 1 – 4 win over Sarsfields in Camlough on Sunday afternoon.
The Shanes went in front early on thanks to points from Mark McCabe and Ryan Quinn before McCabe set up Matthew Girvan for the opening goal of the contest. The sides then swapped two points each with Mark McCabe on target both times for the Shanes and the same player added a further two frees before the half-time break to see his side leading by seven at the break, 1 – 6 to 0 – 2.
The Shanes all but finished the game off in the opening ten minutes of the second-half, tagging on a further six points in row to leave them thirteen points to the good with the scores coming from Mark McCabe (0 – 4), Ryan Quinn (0 – 1) and Matthew Girvan (0 – 1). Sarsfields then scored their first point of the second-half only for Ryan Quinn and Damian O’Hagan fire over great points for the Shanes before Mark McCabe hit a quick-fire goal and a point to increase the Shanes advantage. To their credit Sarsfields kept plugging away and they were rewarded with a goal and a point of their own but the Shanes finished the game the much stronger side and scored a further 1 – 3 to claim a well-deserved win, the scores coming from Mark McCabe (1 – 0), Matthew Girvan (0 – 2) and Michael McParland (0 – 1).
Training for the U21s continues as normal this week.
U10s
Training for the U10s will continue every Thursday evening in St Paul’s school from 7.00pm – 8.00pm.
U8s
Training for the U8s will continue every Thursday evening in St Paul’s school from 6.00pm – 7.00pm.
U6s
Training for U6s continues every Wednesday evening at 6.00pm in Bessbrook Community Centre. All boys and girls at this age group are welcome to attend.
Meabh O’Neill’s Camogie
Training for all age groups has now moved indoors for the winter and will take place very Tuesday evening in St Paul’s school sports hall from 6.00 - 7.00pm.
A Halloween Disco will take place in the club-house this coming Friday 28th October from 7.00pm – 9.00pm.
The prize-giving night for the Meabh O’Neill’s camogie club will take place on Friday, 18th November at 7.30pm.
Congratulations
Huge congratulations to two of our senior ladies team, Blaithin Mackin and Jessica Watters, who both received Ulster Schools All Star awards last week. This is a fantastic honour for the girls and their families. Both are fully deserving of their awards and have always represented their school, club and county with outstanding honour and pride.
Bucket Collection
Last week’s bucket collection in aid of our senior ladies Ulster Club Championship fund raised a total of £1084.00 and €178.90. The club would like to thank everyone who contributed.
Shane’s Shoot-Out Darts Classic
The club is hosting a darts classic on Sunday 13th November with a total of £300 prize money on offer. Entry fee £10 per person….registration at 2.00pm with throwing starting at 3.00pm. Everyone welcome.
Lotto
Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 11, 20, 23 & 25. There were no jackpot winners and 1 x lucky dip winner. The jackpot now stands at £4300.
