Senior Men

After three league games our senior men are still looking for their first win having suffered another narrow one-point defeat at home to Middletown on Friday night, 2 – 6 to 0 – 11.

The Shane’s were quick out off the blocks on Friday scoring three points in as minutes to get off to the best possible start with Marc Feehan, Greg McCabe and David McCabe getting the scores. A Connaire Mackin point was soon followed up by an excellent score form Micheál Brady to put the Shane’s five to the good and firmly in control. Middletown’s first point of the contest was quickly cancelled out by a long-range effort from Kristian Magill to restore the Shane’s five-point advantage which soon became six when Neil Paul Lennon popped over side’s seventh point. The Shane’s were then rocked back on their heels when a high Middletown free was fisted to the net to get them back into the game and they tagged on the next three points to level the game and completely wipe out the Shane’s excellent start. A fifth Middletown point put them ahead for the first time before a Shane’s defensive mistake gifted the away side their second goal and they now led by four. A late David McCabe free saw the Shane’s go into the break three behind, 2- 5 to 0 – 8.

If the first-half was a fairly high-scoring affair the second-half was the complete opposite with a total of just four points being scored. An early Ryan Quinn point got the home side back to within two before a Kristian Magill free left just the minimum between sides before another Quinn point levelled the game. However, this proved to be the Shane’s final score of the game and it took Middletown a total of twenty-five minutes to score their one and only point of the second-half but it was enough to see them claim the all-important win, 2- 6 to 0 – 11.

The senior men return to action on Wednesday night with an away game against Crossmaglen II’s.

U10s

Our U10s travelled to Silverbridge on Sunday morning for their first tournament of the season and competed in the A section of the Cup against Crossmaglen, Silverbridge and Oram. At the end of three very tough qualifying games the Shane’s, Crossmaglen and Silverbridge were all level and score-cards had to be used to separate the three teams and determine who would progress to the Cup semi-final. Unfortunately, Crossmaglen pipped the young Shane’s by one score to move on to the semi-final. Well done to the entire team and many thanks to the players and parents who attended the tournament. We would also like to thank Silverbridge for their invitation to take part. The first U10 league game takes place this Wednesday evening way to O’Hanlon’s Poyntzpass.
