U12 Boys

Our U12 boys took part in the annual Kieran Sands tournament in Ballyholland on Saturday and were winners of the shield. The Shane’s were placed in group A alongside Mayobridge, Ballyholland, Ardboe, Keady and Killeavy and recorded wins over Mayobridge and Killeavy, a draw against Killeavy and narrow defeat by Keady, the eventual cup winners. At the conclusion of the group games the young Shane’s were paired against Dromintee in the shield semi-final and after a very tight game the Shane’s came out on top and through to the final and a game against the host club Ballyholland. The lads put in a great shift in the final and eventually ran out winners by a few scores to claim the shield title. Well done to everyone, players and management, on an excellent performance and we would like to thank Ball Holland for a great day of football.

Senior Men

Our senior men and Clan na Gael shared the spoils on Friday as their league game ended in a draw, Shane O’Neill’s 1 – 8 Clan na Gael 0 – 11.

Two points in the opening ten minutes courtesy of Paddy Gregory and Raymie Fitzpatrick gave the Shane’s an early advantage but two points in as many minutes from the away side tied the game. Micheál Brady tapped over for the Shanes and Kristian Magill followed this up with a well taken point to put the Shane’s back in forward but three points in a row put the Clans ahead for the first time in the game. A Ryan Quinn point tied the game again before Neil Paul Lennon and Damian Doyle knocked over close range efforts to give the Shane’s a two-point lead again but a late first-half point saw the Clans trail by just the minimum at the break, 0 – 7 to 0 – 6.

The Clans made the much better start to the second-half and fired over three points in the opening exchanges to lead by two, before the sides then swapped points with Mark McCabe getting the Shane’s score. A Kristian Magill goal edged the Shane’s ahead by just a single point but the away got the last point of the game to see the scores all-square at the full-time whistle, Shane O’Neill’s 1 – 8 Clan na Gael 0 – 11.

The lads are scheduled to return to action on Thursday night at home to Middletown.

U14 Boys – All-Ireland Féile

Next Saturday sees our U14 boy’s amalgamation of Patrick Rankins head to Sligo to take part in the All-Ireland Féile. The excitement is really building now for the lads as the look forward to meeting their host club Easky next Friday afternoon. All the fundraising is complete, their new gear has been ordered, accommodation sorted and they just can’t wait to get going now. They have played some decent football throughout the year and they will hope that this continues next weekend on the All-Ireland stage. As well as the players and management travelling to the West next weekend, a large group of parents and supporters will also make the journey and the club would like to take the opportunity to wish them all safe travels and wish the lads all the very best in the tournament.

U14 Girls

Hard luck to our U14 girls who lost out Thursday night to a very good Crossmaglen side in the championship final. The girls have played brilliant football throughout the year but it just wasn’t to be on Thursday. Well done to all the girls and their management team on not only qualifying for the championship final but for all their hard work and commitment throughout the year. The girls return to league action on Wednesday night at home to Granemore.

U10s

Well done to our young U10 footballers who qualified for the shield semi-final at our own annual blitz on Saturday. The Shane’s played some brilliant football throughout the tournament before coming up against a good Drumgath side in the semi-final and unfortunately for the Shane’s they lost out by a few scores. Training for the U10s continues as normal during the week on Wednesday and Friday evening form 6.30pm – 7.30pm at the club.

U8’s

Training for our U8 footballers continues on Wednesday evening from 6.30pm – 7.30pm at the club and all players at both these age groups, boys and girls, are welcome to come along.

U6s

Training for our U6 footballers continues on Wednesday evening from 6.30pm – 7.30pm at the club and all players at both these age groups, boys and girls, are welcome to come along.

Annual U10 Blitz

Saturday saw a great day’s football at our annual U10 blitz today which saw a total of 27 teams taking part. There was some brilliant football on display throughout the tournament and there were 3 teams left standing at the end with Wolfe Tones winning the Plate competition beating Killeavy in the final, Pearse Ógs winning the Shield competition beating Drumgath in the final whilst Middletown overcame Clonduff in the final of the Cup. It was a great day all round for the Middletown club with young Shea McNaughton collecting the Player of the Tournament award.
We would like to thank all the clubs for their participation and helping to make it such a successful day. We would also like to thank everyone who helped out on the day - referees, score-keepers, photographers, registration takers, burger makers, coffee, tea and sandwich makers, car-park attendants, rubbish collectors and anyone else who played any part on the day. A special of thanks also to Gortrush Foods who supplied the burgers, Decky Harbinson for providing the PA system, Safe Fuels for the parking provision and Carrickcruppen for the lend of their nets.
We really hope everyone thoroughly enjoyed their day and we hope to see everyone back next year.

Well Done

Well done to very own James McCann who became an internet sensation over the past few days following his brilliant rendition of Grace in the chapel at Kilmainham Gaol during his recent school trip. The clip of James singing has been shared far and wide across the web, and rumour has it that his dad Colm is already looking for an agent to manage future appearances!!!

Cúl Camp

This year’s Kellogg’s Cúl Camp will take place at the club from Monday 15th July - Friday 19th July. Online registration for the camp is now open and anyone planning to attend should register online asap using the following link – www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie

Lotto

Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 2, 12, 19 & 27. There were no jackpot winners and 1 x match three winner. The lotto jackpot is slowly but surely creeping up and now stands at £3,850.
