Our senior men had no game over the past seven days but they return to action on Wednesday evening away to Crossmaglen II’s.
Senior Ladies
Our senior ladies put in a great performance away Dromintee on Saturday evening before eventually losing out by four points, 4 – 13 to 4 – 9.
The game began in the middle of a torrential downpour but to their credit both sides coped well with the conditions and midway through the opening half they were all-square at 1 – 2 apiece with Aimee Mackin scoring a goal and a point, with the other Shane’s point coming from Aoibheann Jones. Dromintee then scored two goals and a point in quick succession to lead by seven before a Sorcha McDonnell goal reduced the deficit to four but Dromintee tagged on another three points in a row to regain their seven-point. Late first-half points from Sorcha McDonnell and Aimee Mackin saw the Shane’s trail by five at the break, 3 – 6 to 2 – 4.
An early second-half point from Aimee Mackin had the Shane’s back to within four and this was reduced to just one when Aimee Mackin powered home a great goal. Another Dromintee point was quickly cancelled by Aimee Mackin before Aoibheann Jones brought the Shane’s level with a well taken point. However, it was Dromintee who had the better of the next fifteen minutes and scored six points in a row to put them firmly in control but the Shane’s girls weren’t finished just yet and a goal and two points from Aimee Mackin got them back to within one. They were now pushing all out for the equaliser but it was Dromintee who broke away to score a late goal and seal their win on a score-line of 4 – 13 to 4 – 9.
Despite their narrow defeat the girls can take great heart from their performance especially some of the younger girls who have made the step up to senior football, including Aoife Brady, Niamh Carragher and Sinead McDonnell.
The ladies potentially have a game against Clann Eireann this week but it is still to be confirmed – please keep an eye on social media for confirmation.
Minor Boys
Our minor boys’ amalgamation of Patrick Rankins suffered a narrow one-point defeat to Middletown last Monday, 0 – 11 to 1 – 7 but in fairness if they have had their shooting boots on they would have won the game. They return to action this Monday evening with an away game against Sarsfields.
Minor Girls
Our minor ladies were scheduled to play Naomh Labhaoise on Thursday night but the game was called off as Naomh Labhaoise couldn’t field a team and the Shane’s were awarded the points. It is a few weeks until their next game so it is hoped to arrange challenge games to make sure the minor players are getting enough games.
U16 Girls
Our U16 girls kept their recent run of good form going with an excellent home win over Silverbridge last Wednesday night.
U14 Boys
Our U14 boys’ amalgamation were involved in high scoring game against Cullyhanna last Tuesday evening but they ultimately fell to a defeat on a score-line of 3 – 13 to 4 – 4. They return to action this Tuesday evening away to Dromintee.
U14 Girls
Our U14 girls have an away game against Granemore on Thursday and training for the girls continues on Tuesday at the field from 6.00pm – 7.30pm and all girls are asked to be in attendance.
U12 Boys
Our U12 boys got their season off to great start on Saturday with a brilliant 5 – 14 to 2 – 9 win over O’Hanlon’s Poyntzpass. They young Shane’s have been training hard over the past few weeks and fully deserved their win on Saturday and next up is a game against Mullaghbawn.
U12 Girls
Our U12 girls were in action on Sunday evening away to Dromintee but at the time of going to press the result was unknown. Training for the U12 girls continues as normal on Tuesday and Thursday this week.
U10s
Our U10 footballers were in action last Wednesday evening away to O’Hanlon’s Poyntzpass. The young Shane’s produced some fine football with plenty of good to match their excellent display. Well done to both teams for providing a great game. Training continues as normal this week.
U8s (P3 & P4 Boys and Girls)
Well done to our U8’s had a challenge game against O’Hanlon’s Poyntzpass on Wednesday evening. Both teams played some great football and credit must go to all the young boys and girls. U8 training for both boys and girls takes place every Friday evening at the field from 6.30pm – 7.30pm and all boys and girls at this age group are welcome to come along.
U6s (Nursery, P1 & P2 Boys and Girls)
Training for our U6s, both boys and girls, takes place very Friday evening at the field from 6.30pm – 7.30pm and all boys and girls at this age group are welcome to come along and join in the fun.
U12 Girls Jersey Sponsorship

Best Wishes
Best wishes to our senior ladies’ footballer who underwent surgery during the week on her injured thumb. We hope to see her back in club and county colours in the near future. Best wishes also to another senior ladies’ footballer Louise Kenny who is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming weeks on her injured knee. We also hope to see our underage footballer Keegan Grant return to action shortly following his nasty knee injury.
Lotto
Last week’s winning lotto number were 14, 17, 22 & 23. There were no jackpot winners and one match 3 winner. The jackpot now stands at £1100.00.
Condolences
The club would like to offer its sympathy to the family of Pat McArdle who passed away recently. Pat was a former secretary and committee member at the club. Our deepest condolences to his wife Christina, his daughters Patricia and Eimear and his entire family circle. May he rest in peace.
