Senior Men

Our senior men began their 2018 league campaign with a narrow one point away defeat to Eire Óg on Sunday afternoon, 1 – 13 to 1 - 12. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Camlough but with the pitch being waterlogged the game was switched to Craigavon.

The Shane’s registered the first point with David McCabe firing over in the opening minute but Eire Óg hit the next four points to lead by three with Neil Paul Lennon replying for the Shane’s to reduce the deficit to two. The sides then swapped pointed frees with David McCabe on target for the away side before another Neil Paul Lennon had the Shane’s back to within one. A sixth Eire Óg point edged them further ahead but a free from Kristian Magill and a third point from Neil Paul Lennon had the Camlough side back on level terms. A pointed free apiece kept the sides level pegging, Kristian Magill, tapping over for the Shanes before Eire Óg fired in the first goal of the contest and they followed this up with two quick-fire points to lead by five at the break, 1 – 9 to 0 – 7.

Early second-half points from David McCabe and Eamon McCabe had the Shane’s back to within three and the sides were soon level when team captain Micheál Brady rifled the ball to the back of the Eire Óg net. The Shane’s couldn’t build on their momentum and in fact it was Eire Óg who had the better of the next ten minutes, slotting over three unanswered points, two from frees, to regain the initiative. However, the Shane’s weren’t giving up easy and they piled on the pressure to score three in a row themselves to tie the game again heading into the final stages, David McCabe (2) and Kristian Magill (1) getting the scores but Eire Óg got the winning score in injury time to claim the victory by a single point, 1 – 13 to 1 – 12.
