The Cathal Fegan Schools of TaeKwon-Do are celebrating after bringing an incredible 50 Medals home from the International Taekwon-Do Federation European Championships that took place in Cardiff at the weekend.
The competitors came from the Newry, Silverbridge and Holywood clubs and the Newry and Silverbridge Clubs between them were awarded 16 Gold Medals including 10 different European champions, 18 Silvers and 16 Bronze.
Cathal Fegan couldn't be prouder of his students. He said "The build up over the last 12 months was working towards last week in Cardiff and bringing a very strong team over and we were expecting to do the best we could do. Every student on the mats gave it their all, and coming back with 16 gold medals, 18 silver, 16 bronze is a well over achievement for us. We were expecting a few but every student gave it their all and came back putting Newry and Silverbridge Club on the map."
The Gold Medal Winners
Aoife Loye won a total of three Gold Medals taking the Adult Female Welterweight Black Belt Champion. Aoife was also on Team Ireland Women’s team that won Gold. The Silverbridge woman is already a World champion, European champion and six times Irish champion. She currently has made it to her 4th Degree Black Belt. As part of the sport Loye has travelled as far away as Argentina and Korea.
Rachael Carvill also won three Gold Medals including the Junior Girl Heavyweight Black Belt Champion.
Rachael Was also on Team Ireland girls team that won gold. After each of the Ireland team members had fought, the competition ended in a draw between Ireland and the UK which ment that both teams had to pick there strongest fighter and Rachael was picked and won the decider in an unbelievable hard flight which led team Ireland to gold and European Champions.

Amy Bantleman won two Gold Medals as Girls Black Belt Team Champion
Ross Lynch aged 7 won under 11s light weight Gold
Liam Keegan Retained his European gold from 2023 to win Gold in sparring
Oisin McEvoy under 14 European champion
Molly Fegan won under 11 girls European champion
Ignas Rimeikis won gold under 11 heavyweight sparring
Freya Sloan won gold under 11 girls
Next for the school is the World Championships that happen next year in Barcelona. With trials taking place in November in Cork, Cathal Fegan Schools of TaeKwon-Do will be doing all they can to get as many people qualified as possible.
