The Warrenpoint Front Shore Revitalisation Steering Group has welcomed substantial funding from the Department for Communities for the Front Shore area of the town.
Following Steering Group meetings, an ambitious action plan has been agreed, with scheduled commencement of the work in the coming weeks. Objectives involve the rejuvenation of Warrenpoint's Front Shore area, addressing dereliction concerns, and initialising a Shop Front Improvement Scheme. The Steering Group has also pinpointed specific projects, such as procuring Christmas lights for the Front Shore and installing customied interpretative signage to showcase the area's rich history. It's hoped that these initiatives will attract a higher number of visitors, contributing to the ongoing development of Warrenpoint as a prominent tourism destination.
Councillor Michael Ruane, Chairperson of the Warrenpoint Front Shore Revitalisation Steering Group, remarked, "The Steering group members have embraced the opportunity to provide ideas and agreed on an exciting action plan. Their ideas and enthusiasm have been pivotal in the achievement of the funding."
Cathal O'Neill from Kilmorey Care, a Steering Group member, expressed his delight in securing the successful funding offer of £100,000 from the Department for Communities for this revitalisation project. He highlighted the guidance provided by Newry, Mourne, and Down District Council officials to ensure the complete utilisation of the funding before the deadline on March 31, 2024.
Mark Kelly, representing the WBR Chamber, acknowledged the Steering Group's efforts, stating, "The work of the Steering Group has enabled this fantastic investment to be achieved, which will no doubt open up further opportunities with improvement to the business premises and repairs to derelict buildings."
