Write a commentCounty Armagh singer Kerry Fearon has won the Pure Country Album of the Year at the Academy of Western Artists Awards with her debut album; ‘Honky Tonk Girl’.
The 24th Annual Will Rogers Academy of Western Artists Awards* ceremony took place 13 August in Fort Worth, TX. Kerry had been nominated in two different categories; Pure Country Female & Pure Country Album and she had planned to attend the original awards date back in April where she was looking forward to presenting some awards and performing on stage. However, Kerry’s travel plans and the original award ceremony date were cancelled due to COVID 19. Travel restrictions were still in place for the rescheduled date but Kerry was able to watch live online through the night.
Kerry, who presents the Boots’n’Roots Show on Dundalk FM, was up against artists such as Jason James, Dennis Ledbetter, Weldon Henson; all of whom she greatly admires so winning Pure Country Album came as a huge surprise. Previous winners of this award include names such as Scott Southworth and Chuck Cusimano.
Her debut album Honky Tonk Girl was produced and arranged by Clive Culbertson at No Sweat Studios, and she is currently working on her second album with Wayne Golden. Her current single ‘Chase Wild Horses’, which is the third track to be taken from this new project, made it to Hot Press Magazine Track of the Day on its release and is getting plenty of airplay.
Kerry began her singing career just five years ago. Describing it ‘a solo adventure’, she explains that she did it in memory of her Dad, who was also a singer. ‘We lost him to Motor Neurone Disease (ALS) in 2013. Since I began, this has truly been a whirlwind and it has taken me places way beyond my wildest dreams and although it’s not the easiest path to follow, I have no regrets and I can’t wait to get back at it’.
