Country singer Kerry Fearon is back with a new single and her second album on the way, marking a fresh chapter in a career that has taken her to stages across Ireland and beyond. Her new single, 'When Bad Men Happen to Good Women', is out now, with her second album, Boots'n'Roots, due for release in June 2026.
Kerry's journey into music is a personal one. Following the passing of her father from Motor Neurone Disease, the Jonesborough woman felt compelled to continue the musical legacy he had left behind. A well-known local singer, he had been a major influence on her, and when he lost his ability to speak and sing, Kerry took up that mantle herself.
Her early momentum in the Irish country music scene gathered pace quickly. An invitation from John McNicholl to compete on Glór Tíre on TG4 followed, and she progressed through the heats to reach the live finals, raising her profile considerably within the scene. Since then, she has performed widely across Ireland, sharing stages with artists including Kelly Willis, Susan McCann, Marty Haggard, Will Banister, Joni Harms, Thomas Gabriel and Stephen Pride.
In 2019, Kerry graduated from the M.I.X. course with Hot Press Magazine and made a significant career move that same year, leaving Downtown Country after four years to launch her own show. By August of that year she had joined Dundalk FM, where she began presenting and producing The Boots'n'Roots Show. Now approaching its seventh year, the show has grown into a globally syndicated platform, broadcast on over 30 stations worldwide and covering country, Americana, bluegrass and folk.
Kerry's debut album, Honky Tonk Girl, won Pure Country Album of the Year at the Academy of Western Artists Awards in Texas in 2020, though the pandemic curtailed its momentum at the time. Her single 'Chase Wild Horses', released that same year, was named Track of the Day by Hot Press Magazine, featured in Sunday Life and Country Music People Magazine, and received international airplay including RTÉ Radio 1, Chris Country Radio UK and stations in the US.
Having recorded a full album's worth of material before the pandemic, those songs were left unreleased due to life circumstances. Kerry returned to releasing music in August of last year with her version of 'Tables Are Turning', originally written by Victoria George. The track has since been nominated for Song of the Year at the UK Country Music Awards.
Her new single, 'When Bad Men Happen to Good Women', also originally recorded by Victoria George, is an upbeat honky-tonk-driven track that blends classic country storytelling with a contemporary edge. Kerry has made the song distinctly her own, bringing a fresh energy and perspective to the recording.
Alongside the single and album release, Kerry has a busy period ahead. She will return to the Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival in June as MC for the main Town Hall concerts as the festival marks its 20th anniversary, and she has a run of live performances lined up for May. She has also recently been conducting backstage interviews at the Hot Country TV Awards.
