SOS Daisyhill, the campaign group who have organised this Sunday's Daisyhill hospital rally have told newry.ie that it's all systems go for the protest. Francis Gallagher, from the SOS Daisyhill campaign group has spoke of the power people have when their voices are heard. The Rally leaves from Marcus Square, Hill Street at 2pm walking to Daisy Hill Hospital.
Gallagher said "Local people have tremendous power when they let their voice be heard. This has been proven to date regarding recent and current plans to strip lifesaving services from Daisyhill. The pressure needs to be kept going on the Department of Health. This is why we are asking the public to come out in numbers to support Daisyhill on Sunday.
"The conditions that contributed to the recent meltdown of services at Daisyhill still exist: our emergency general surgery has not been returned, people who take a stroke and manage to get an ambulance will be put on divert to Craigavon, losing precious time, beds numbers have been reduced well below the required number. It could be argued all these things will have a knock on effect on our ED.
"One also has to ask the question, was the timing of the Southern Trust statement on Thursday about Daisyhill, designed to take the wind from the people's sails for the rally this Sunday? I would ask the public to show on Sunday that we are steadfast in our support for Daisyhill. We need to resolve these issues regarding Daisyhill once and for all. Lets sort the core of the problem out once and for all by showing our support on Sunday. Our time is now. This is it. Let's do it."
