Altnaveigh House nominated for Pride of Place award

Altnaveigh House in Newry has been nominated by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council for an IPB Pride of Place Award 2019.

Nominated in the Cities category for ‘Communities Reaching Out’ the organisation will attend the awards ceremony in Kilkenny later this year.

Altnaveigh House is an umbrella organisation for community and voluntary Protestant, Unionist, Loyalist ( PUL) Groups within the Southern Region. It helps build and maintain strong, dynamic and capable PUL voluntary/community groups as well as unlocking potential of individuals within the wider community. Newry's local Romanian population also have based a church there at weekends.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council nominated a total of two highly valued organisations within the district to the 2019 awards in Association with Co-operation Ireland. Hannas Close in Kilkeel has also been nominated under the main category for ‘Tourism Destination’.

Today 23 July, judges from Pride of Place Awards visited the organisations when they demonstrated their role and activities within their communities by presentations of their projects and exhibitions demonstrating their working partnership with sectors across all their community.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey said, “Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is proud to have selected these excellent groups who have strong community involvement, support community action and value volunteerism.  Both groups will now be invited to attend the awards ceremony in Kilkenny on 30 November and we wish them all the luck.”
