A new initiative to promote local produce was launched this week in Newry with the hope it will lead to annual food and drink festival in the city.
The Spirit of Armagh Down Food & Drink Society, the brainchild of local guys Conor O'Hare and Tony McKeown held their first event in The Bridge Bar in Newry and already they are planning a June event.
Guests got to sample produce from the Mourne Dew Distillery, Spadetown Brewery, Mourne Mountains Brewery, Happy Trails and D’Arcy’s Whiskey.
Speaking about the night Tony McKeown said "There was lots of positivity amongst guests who represented brands, outlets and foodies and great feedback on what the group should do in the future. A monthly meet up featuring two producers each time, paired with local food was suggested with a couple of trips to distilleries per year and an annual food and drink festival."
