Work colleagues, friends, the wider connected Museum family and local historians were on hand today at Newry and Mourne Museum to bid farewell to Dr Ken Abraham, the museum's curator, who is retiring after 22 years. There was plenty of time for catch ups and no small bit of nostalgia.
Dr Abraham worked in the museum when it was based at the old Sean Hollywood Arts Centre before it moved to its new home at Bagenal's Castle. The museum took over the former McCann's Bakery site in March 2007 and Dr Abraham was involved with the project and the exhibitions from the start.
At the gathering he expressed his thanks to everyone for their help and support over the years. "You all made your own contributions in very unique ways, through exhibitions, through sharing memories, donations and as staff members."
Declan Carroll made a presentation on behalf of the museum staff. Praising Dr Abraham he said that the success of the building and museum was down to him and Noreen Cunningham (former curator). He also commended him on all the exhibitions and booklets produced over the years adding that they were a fitting testament to his precise attention to detail.
