Write a commentA range of environmental, public safety and housing related matters were high on the agenda at an Inter-Agency meeting last week at Barcroft Community Centre.
The quarterly gathering was facilitated by Supporting Communities in partnership with Barcroft Community Association. A range of key statutory bodies and voluntary organisations attended, including Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Northern Ireland Housing Executive, The PSNI, Community Restorative Justice, Councillor Liz Kimmins and Choice Housing Association.
Commenting on the Inter-Agency meeting Darren Thompson, Chairperson of Barcroft Community Association said: “There was a good attendance at the quarterly Inter-Agency meeting in Barcroft Community Centre. Some of the issues raised have been addressed previously, but keep recurring including dog fouling, the lack of ‘poop bins’ and rubbish being dumped throughout the area, particularly in the Fourth Street. Several other recurring problems were highlighted including pot holes, the uncontrolled growth of moss and the need for additional handrails in some steep alley’s.
Mr Thompson concluded “A number of long running matters were resolved since the previous quarterly meeting, including access to an alleyway at Hillside Court which is now controlled by a lockable gate. The Inter-agency forum is a powerful platform for holding statutory agencies to account using an agreed ‘Estate Inspection Toolkit’ to measure progress on reported issues."
