Write a commentSDLP Councillor Kevin McAteer has called on Roads Service to act swiftly to install traffic calming measures in the Barcroft Park area. His comments come after a meeting between DRD Officials, Barcroft residents and representatives of the Barcroft Community Association.
Cllr McAteer said: “Residents were asked by DRD some time ago about the implementation of a one-way system in the Barcroft area. They were generally supportive of the scheme, however they now believe that Roads Service are dragging their heels on the issue and feel that they have been forgotten about.
Councillor McAteer, who is the youth leader in the local youth club, has also expressed concern about the levels of speeding and traffic congestion in the area.
“I know a lot of these kids from the local youth club and I also know that they regularly play football in the street outside their houses. The large number of speeding cars and heavy traffic at peak times, however, has made this dangerous. I will be speaking to Roads Service in the coming weeks to request increased traffic calming measures to make the area safer for motorists, pedestrians and local children.”
