Write a commentThe Barcroft Summer Festival kicks off in Newry from Monday with a host of events and activities for people of all ages. The local community association have been running summer events for many years and this one is guaranteed to be one of the besto ones yet!
Local families have already got a taste of the programme with a trip to Fort Lucan Adventure Park in Dublin last Thursday.
Commenting on the community led festival, Chairperson of Barcroft Community Association, Darren Thompson, said “This year’s summer programme has a good spread of activities and events, including a roller disco, Lego building, kite making, Green Gym, family fun day and a day trip to Portrush. Every year our most active volunteers give up dozens of hours of their own time to prepare and deliver the summer programme.”
Mr Thompson concluded “We are proud of the long tradition of delivering summer programmes for children and families. Judging by the programme, this will be another summer to remember. Local people can keep up to date with the programme of activities through our Facebook page. The summer programme costs a lot of money and we are grateful to the various funding bodies who have awarded grants including Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, The Education Authority, The Big Lottery and the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme funded by the Department for Communities.”
