The parents of a young Bessbrook boy are appealing for local people to sign up to the stem cell register in the hope of helping their son who has been suffering with leukaemia since Spring 2022.
Louise and Danny Browne's son Bobby is just eight years of age and he urgently needs a stem cell transplant. He fell unwell in March 2022, when he developed a lump on his neck. He was initially diagnosed with glandular fever, however, after 10 weeks of becoming increasingly unwell, Bobby was referred for further tests which saw him diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in May 2022.

What followed was every parents nightmare. He quickly began chemotherapy but after two rounds of treatment the doctors advised that it wasn't working. Bobby was moved to the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne where he spent two months receiving CAR-T (T cell therapy) but sadly this was also unable to treat the cancer and a blood stem cell transplant is needed urgently. His doctors are searching for a matching donor and his parents are urging everyone that can to register as a potential stem cell donor.
Bobby lives at home with his Mum and Dad and his dogs Rosie and Ben whom he loves so much. He has a caring nature, bringing so much love and joy to everyone’s lives and he loves to play tricks on his Mum and Dad.
Before Bobby became unwell, he loved to be outdoors, climbing mountains. He loved to go swimming and playing football with his friends. He loves playing Fortnite now and that is his main contact with the outside world.
Speaking of the importance of the campaign his parents said “Please, please register. You could save our boy's life or another life. You have the opportunity to save a person's life and save a whole family from grief and despair.”
