Rory Best, Ulster and Ireland Ruby star recently paid a visit to the Southern Area Hospice in Newry to help with the relaunch of their Lottery Draw. During his visit Rory witnessed first-hand the work that the Hospice does, he met with staff and volunteers and gained an understanding of the range of services the Hospice provides to over 1000 local patients and their families annually.
Southern Area Hospice has to raise £2.5 million each year to continue to ensure its services are available to local people. The Hospice is delighted that Rory has decided to lend his support to one of their fundraising initiatives, namely their Hospice Lottery. The weekly lottery draw has been a consistent fundraising element for the Southern Area Hospice since its initial launch in 1999. In the hope to make more people aware that they can support their local Hospice by joining the draw, the lottery has recently undergone a brand makeover which will be rolled out across the southern area in the coming weeks.

During his visit Rory commented “I have always been aware of the Hospice and the work they do but over the past few years and on my recent visit to Southern Area Hospice, I have gained a real appreciation for the care the staff provide and how necessary fundraising is to them. I am delighted to be able to help spread the message of the Hospice Lottery and would encourage people to support their local Hospice by getting in touch to sign-up to play.”
