A police appeal has been launched after two boats moored at the Albert Basin were damaged some time last week.

One of the boats the Silvery Light is currently awaiting removal from the Basin for a community restoration project.

Constable Nicki Martin said: “Sometime between 6pm on Saturday, 6 June and Thursday morning, 11 June, entry was forced to two boats.

One of these boats – the Silvery Light – is currently being restored by a local charity to be used as a community boat. This and another boat – the Badger – had doors ripped off and windows and instruments broken.

“This is a very disheartening attack on the whole community and we would like to hear from anyone who has information which may assist our investigation. We can be contacted in Newry on 101, quoting ref: 600 110615.”
