Write a commentIt has been confirmed that the body of a man found in December in a remote area near a reservoir in Oldham is not that of Newry man Hugh Toner.
Mr Toner has been missing for almost 22 years and similarities between the missing man and the man discovered were being investigated.
Mr Toner's son Sean had supplied a DNA sample to police following his own son spotting a Greater Manchester Police appeal on social media, asking for information that could help identify the man found on Saddleworth Moor.
The Toner family were informed today that the DNA wasn't a match.
The uncertainty now continues for the family of Hugh Toner, who left Craigavon Hospital on the 7th of February 1994 and despite intensive searching at the time nothing was ever found.
Mr Toner is still listed as a missing person by the PSNI on their website with his last known address being Hawthorne Lane, Dublin Road, Newry. He is described as Slim build; Grey complexion.
