A bus driver has tragically died at the scene of a single vehicle road crash yesterday afternoon 17 February, on the Tullyagh Road near Belleeks. The bus was carrying pupils from St Paul's High School and no other injuries have been reported.
Police are investigating the collision which occurred around 3.30pm and the bus ended up on its side off the road. At this stage of the investigation the incident is being treated as a sudden death.
In a statement on social media Quinn Coaches based near Poyntzpass said "We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our drivers was involved in a road traffic accident whilst transporting school children today. Despite immediate emergency response, our dear colleague sadly passed away.
"Our first thoughts are with his family, friends, and fellow colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.
He was a respected and experienced member of our team, and he will be greatly missed.
"We are relieved to confirm that no children were injured during the incident. The safety and wellbeing of our drivers and passengers is always our highest priority."
St Paul's High School have encouraged pupils involved in the incident to attend today if they can and personnel will be available to support them.
The Tullyagh Road was closed for a period following the incident but has since reopened. Enquiries into the circumstances of the collision are ongoing.
