Women's Aid Armagh Down has launched a Buy a Brick fundraising campaign to support the next phases of development at the ELEOS Centre of Excellence in Newry. The campaign aims to raise funds for Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the project, which will provide trauma-informed support services for women and children affected by domestic and sexual abuse.
Phase 1 of the ELEOS Centre, located at 7 Downshire Place in Newry, officially opened earlier this year following more than a decade of planning and development. Work is now focused on securing the funding needed to progress the remaining stages, including a specialist children's and young people's hub.
The Buy a Brick campaign offers supporters a range of ways to contribute, from a single brick at £10 to five bricks for £50, ten bricks for £100, fifty bricks for £500, or sponsorship of an entire wall for £5,000. Individual donations, family contributions, workplace initiatives and corporate sponsorship are all welcomed.
Eileen Murphy OBE, chief executive of Women's Aid Armagh Down, said: "We understand that finances are strained for many people at the moment so we are asking the community to get behind us in any way they can. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will help us continue building something that is badly needed for women and children affected by domestic/sexual abuse.
"The ELEOS project has always been about creating a safe, supportive and trauma-informed environment where women and children can begin to rebuild their lives. More than 2,100 women and children accessed our services in this area alone, last year, with more than 7,500 in total across Northern Ireland."
Murphy continued: "The Buy a Brick campaign is designed to be accessible to everyone. For some people that may be a £10 donation. For others it may be a workplace fundraiser, a community group effort or sponsoring an entire wall. Every single contribution matters. It is a chance to come together, raise money, awareness and to truly make a difference."
Phase 1 of the centre was made possible through support from the community, businesses, funders and supporters throughout the region. Women's Aid Armagh Down is encouraging local businesses, schools, sports clubs, community organisations and workplaces to get involved in a collective fundraising effort.
