Warrenpoint Port has become the first corporate supporter of the Buy a Brick campaign run by Women’s Aid Armagh Down. The campaign aims to fund the next phases of the ELEOS Centre, a purpose-built intervention centre in the heart of Newry. The Port will make a donation for every tonne of Narrow Water Bridge components that leaves its quayside.
Buy a Brick invites businesses and individuals to help fund phases two and three of the ELEOS Centre, which will support women and children affected by domestic abuse.
The Port’s donation is part of its longstanding commitment to Women’s Aid Armagh Down. Because thousands of tonnes of bridge components are still to move through the Port, the contribution will grow over time.
David Holmes, CEO of Warrenpoint Port, said, “The Port has proudly supported Women’s Aid Armagh Down for many years and this Buy a Brick campaign presents a powerful platform to support the most vulnerable in our community. We are pleased to become the first corporate supporter of the campaign and encourage other businesses to consider how they could get involved.”
He added, “For every tonne of Narrow Water Bridge components that leaves our quayside, a donation will be made towards the next phases of the ELEOS Centre, which will see our contribution grow as thousands of tonnes of bridge components continue to move through the Port.”
Eileen Murphy, CEO of Women’s Aid Armagh Down, said: “The Buy a Brick campaign is about bringing our community together to help deliver the next phases of the ELEOS Centre. Support from local businesses and individuals will help us take that work forward for women and children affected by domestic abuse.
“We are grateful to the team at Warrenpoint Harbour Authority for becoming the first corporate supporter of Buy a Brick. They have found a thoughtful and practical way to mark a historic moment for the area while contributing to the future of Women’s Aid provision.”
