Write a commentBolster Community (previously known as Space NI) are looking for teenagers to join their brand-new Youth Leadership Project. Youth Upfront is a Peace IV-funded project that will see years 10 and 11 teenagers from across the entire area of Newry, Mourne & Down complete an innovative, cross-community programme between February and July.
Youth Upfront will consist of 4 workshops and interactive seminars with guest facilitators and experts and will culminate with a community-based event led by the participants themselves, with a focus on helping understand developmental leadership. There’ll also be awesome free residential weekends in Fermanagh where you can meet participants from other districts, learn essential leadership skills and challenge yourself with plenty of team-building exercises.
Tom Franklin, Project Co-Ordinator for Youth Upfront commented on the launch “Right now, we are seeking teens from Year 10 & 11 to step up to the challenge and join us on this inspirational leadership scheme. We are seeking to recruit diverse, young people from different traditions, cultural backgrounds and opinions to actively engage and to build personal and collective strengths. If you are interested in developing your leadership skills or maybe exploring the leader inside you, why not register for Youth Upfront and ensure that your voice is heard in your community and beyond!”
Youth Upfront will give you the opportunity to plan and organise a community event of your choice. It could be an awareness campaign, support for the homeless, an LGBT equality event, a beach clean, a bake off. If you want to take things further there's also an opportunity to earn OCN NI Level 2 Award in Youth Leadership.
Youth Up Front aims enhance the capacity of children and young people to form positive and effective relationships with others of a different background, reach their potential and make positive contributions to community development.
The programme will help build positive futures for those with the potential to be leaders in their community, providing them with a support structure to address personal and social challenges in their lives.
The project will involve both online and in-person workshops (restrictions permitting) and will include themes such as:
- Exploring Leadership - Understanding Traits and Types of Leadership
- Exploring Differences & Finding Common Ground
- Physical & Mental Wellness
- Exploring Relationships
- Resilience & Mental Toughness
- Building Confidence and Self Esteem.
