Write a commentNewry Mourne and Down Councillor Liz Kimmins has said that the campaign for the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) to introduce traffic calming measures on the main Forkhill Road which runs through Cloughoge remains a high priority for her.
Members of the local Toal / Harte Sinn Féin Cumann which covers the Killeavy area have highlighted the ongoing concerns of local residents about the issue, by asking motorists to “Kill Your Speed not Our Residents”
The local Councillor outlying the issues involved explained “Over the last number of years I have been lobbying Dept for Infrastructure to implement traffic calming measures particularly on the main Forkhill Road through Cloughogue.
There are concerns about speeds of many vehicles in what is a designated 40 mph zone.
The Department for Infrastructure Roads Service in response to the raising of concerns put in place some measures to advise drivers of the speed limits but this has not resolved the problem”.
Cllr Kimmins continued “There have been numerous collisions along this road, and it is extremely dangerous for pedestrians. My family and I have lived on this road for many years and know only too well the dangers faced by the local community on a daily basis.
Similarly in Meigh there have been a number of collisions in the last few months, and I have also contacted DFI Roads Service regarding this, specifically at the crossroads at the entrance to the village”
