Newry Maritime Association and the Meadow and Armagh Road Community Association are hosting an event later this month to celebrate the history of Helens Terrace in The Meadow in Newry.
It's part of the Maritime Associations Shared History Project and on Saturday 29 July the group will erect a commemorative plaque at the row of houses to mark the history of this unique row of houses.
The terrace of seven three storey houses are faced with Newry granite complimented with red bricks. The houses appear in a Valuation Revision Book in 1887 with a value of £9 each. They were built by industrialist Robert Dempster who arrived in Newry from Scotland in 1855.
Refreshments will be served afterwards in the community centre and we will have music from the Camlough Brass and Reed Band. Everyone from the local community and beyond is welcome.
The event will take place on Saturday 29th of July at 2pm and all are welcome.
