With all the talk of things being 'more expensive across the border' it's interesting to see that one staple in the average drinkers reportoire is actually around the same price or in some places cheaper than most south of the border!
Yes a pint of plain is yer only man for many, and Guinness it appears can be as cheap to buy in a licensed establishment in Dundalk as it is in Newry!* Bucking the trend in spades though is Croziers Bar in Water Street in Newry, coming in at a sweet £3.80 for their creamy pint - We're on our way down!
Over the years prices have ebbed and flowed between the two jurisdictions on the island. Anecdotally it seems that currently prices for eating out, as well as drinks are rising quicker north of the border than with our friends in the south. €5.50 - £4.71 currently seems to be the average for a pint throughout the republic.** It would be interesting to do a comparison of other drinks such as ciders and lagers and especially pint bottles. We just need another night out!
Clubs aren't included here as they have a different pricing structure.
