Write a commentThe former Chairman of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Mark Murnin has presented £11,790 to three charities following his walk around the district in May this year.
In May Councillor Mark Murnin embarked on a 66 mile walk across the district in a three-day event to raise funds for his three chosen charities-Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, Newry & District Gateway Club and Glebe House.
Across the three days (8-10 May 2019) the Chairman was joined by 12 local schools over 400 children, teachers, representatives from all three charities, supporters, Council colleagues and the President of Newry Chamber of Commerce, Paul Convery.
The three-day fundraising event culminated with a ‘Party in the Park’ in Delamont Park with live music and family entertainment to greet the walkers as they completed their 66 mile Chairman’s Charity Walk challenge.
Mr Murnin said: “I am delighted to be in a position to present cheques for an amount that will be of great benefit to my charities - Air Ambulance NI, Glebe House and Newry & District Gateway Club. All of these charities work tirelessly to support people when they most need help. Together with everyone in our community, I am indebted to you for your tireless work. I again sincerely thank Re-Gen Waste Ltd for their invaluable financial contribution. The walk was a wonderful success and one of the highlight’s of my year as First Citizen”.
