Dealing with Parkinson's can be overwhelming if you don't have the right information and support was the sentiment expressed by Council Chairperson, Councillor Michael Savage when he recently met up with Newry and Mourne Parkinson's Support Group to understand more about the disease and the support which the group provides locally to families and residents who are affected by Parkinson’s.
Chairperson, Councillor Savage said; “The Newry and Mourne Parkinson’s Support Group are a remarkable group of local people who offer fantastic advice, guidance and assistance to those within our community who are living with Parkinson’s, their carer’s and their families. This is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, affecting 350 people locally in the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area and 3,900 across Northern Ireland.”
Cllr Savage continued, “I am so impressed by Anne and her colleagues and their deep commitment to raising awareness about this disease. Dealing with Parkinson’s can be overwhelming if you don’t have the right information and support, so I would encourage anyone suffering from Parkinson’s to reach out and speak to them.”
The Newry and Mourne Parkinson’s Support Group meets in Newry Leisure Centre on the first Monday of every month from 1.15pm to 3pm and new members are always welcome.
