Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Laura Devlin, has donated £500 to seven foodbanks across the district as well as two local charities to support those who depend on these services.

Cllr Devlin stated, “As we approach the festive season in these unprecedented times, my wish for Christmas is that families awaken on Christmas morning with the basic necessities of food, light, heat and shelter. To act on this wish, I am donating funds to the seven foodbanks in our district, two local charities, and volunteering in a foodbank.”

Cllr Devlin continued, “It goes without saying, this has been a year like no other. The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating impact on our district. Lives have been lost, families shaken and businesses now facing a future of uncertainty. The devastating impact of Covid-19 has brought real hardship to many families and individuals and the stress and anxiety they are feeling about affording the basics of heat, light and food is very real."
