Mr Patrick Boyle, Warrenpoint was chosen as Christmas 2013 Recycler of the Month. The competition, which is sponsored by the Department of the Environment’s Rethink Waste campaign in partnership with Newry and Mourne District Council, awards £50 to householders who use their recycling bins correctly.
Patrick’s blue bin was full of recyclables including clean plastic containers, bottles, cans, paper, cardboard and glass bottles and jars. Patrick’s son Brian and younger nieces are also keen recyclers who stop and ask which bin they should be using before they throw anything away.
The Recycling Officer for Newry and Mourne Council Said: “Mr Boyle and his family are truly an example to the community. Their blue bin was filled with all the correct materials, and their waste was clean dry and loose. The key element to their approach is that they placed an extra bin in their kitchen for recycling to ensure none of there waste went into the wrong bin’.
The Recycling Officer added, ‘Newry and Mourne District Council residents are for the most part excellent in terms of their recycling practices, however we would like to remind householders the blue bin service does not include plastic bags, plastic wrap/film or polystyrene packaging and bins can not be collected if these items are included’.
Officers will be targeting contamination over the next number of months and those bins with incorrect materials will not be collected.
