Write a commentWith Halloween council events being cancelled this year several communities around Newry have decided on their own plans to celebrate the occasion.
Drumgullion Avenue had originally planned to have a 'Spook Shack' on Halloween night with treats for all the young folk but due to a poor weather forecast they have decided the event will take place on tomorrow Friday, Halloween Eve at 4.30pm at the same location at the leaning tree at Drumgullion Avenue.
Speaking about the event John McCabe said "We know this is not ideal but the purpose of having the stall was always providing children with some semblance of the Halloween festive spirit which we still can do. It was also to discourage children from Trick or Treating going to senior citizens and vulnerable people's doors and giving the expected poor weather it looks like nature will be playing its hand in discouraging this on Saturday."
Ballinacraig Community Association are hosting a Halloween night 'fright night' on Flagstaff Court on the old Warrenpoint Road, what they now call 'Frightstaff Court' and the area is spookily festooned with all sorts of Halloween horrors.
Carla Quinn said "Everybody is more than welcome to come down around 5.30/ 6pm" and they hope to raise some funds for Cuan Mhuire and Women's Aid.
