Cllr Larkin explained the issue "Activists erected a number of signs along the Silverbridge Road close to the junction with Ummeracam Road to warn drivers that school children alight from buses at this point. The bus stop lies between two bends in the road creating a very dangerous situation for drivers and children alike. I have raised this issue with the Dept. for Infrastructure on a number of occasions over the past few years to no avail. There are no signs to warn of the bus stop or that children are crossing the road.  It's a sad reflection on a government department when a community have to erect signs to ensure the safety of their children."

Councillor Magennis added “It is beyond comprehension that the Dept. for Infrastructure refuses to address this extremely serious situation by highlighting that there is a bus stop at the end of the Ummeracam Rd which joins the very busy and fast moving main Silverbridge Rd.”

Concluding Cllr Magennis said “Lives are potentially being put at risk here and it shouldn’t be up to local community activists to erect signage in order to highlight the risks posed on a very dangerous stretch of road but they have to be commended for doing so and it shows the true community spirit that exists throughout the area.”
