Slieve Gullion Councillor Áine Quinn has called for urgent action to address ongoing road safety concerns at Ford's Cross, Silverbridge following a meeting with representatives from The Road Ahead NI group. Cllr Quinn was accompanied at the meeting by Aoife Finnegan MLA, with the discussion also involving representatives from Silverbridge GAC.
Councillor Quinn said: "It was great to meet with representatives from Road Ahead NI to discuss the ongoing safety concerns at Ford's Cross. We had a positive and worthwhile engagement.
"This is a long-term issue that requires urgent attention. Both my Party and the local community have been campaigning on this matter for many years."
Cllr Quinn noted that resolving some of the safety concerns may require legislative changes, but said that Minister Liz Kimmins has committed to review the safety measures at the site. "This is an important first step in ensuring the safety of everyone who uses this road," she said.
MLA Aoife Finnegan spoke on the broader issue of road safety in the area, saying: "Sinn Féin remains fully committed to improving road safety across South Armagh and to working with local communities to secure the necessary action."
Ms Finnegan also paid tribute to the work of The Road Ahead NI charity, saying: "I also want to acknowledge the important work carried out by 'The Road Ahead NI' Charity. They provide vital support to families, friends, and communities who have been bereaved because of road traffic collisions, while continuing to raise awareness of the devastating impact these tragedies have on our communities."
