The Deputy Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Councillor Geraldine Kearns has praised organisers after last night's packed Christmas tree light-up. Thousands of people ventured between the Christmas light switch-on at Marcus Square and Christmas Market on one of the busiest evenings in the city in a long time.
Speaking after the festivities, Cllr Kearns described the occasion as a fun-filled outing for families that showcased the vibrancy and warmth of the city. Young Harry Collins had the honour of switching on the Christmas tree lights, with his delight and that of other children marking the start of the festive season in magical fashion.
Despite freezing temperatures, the streets were alive with energy and excitement, with no shortage of community spirit.
"It was truly magical to see little Harry Collins switch on the Christmas tree lights and witness the delight on his face and the faces of all the children, marking the start of the exciting Christmas season," Cllr Kearns said.
The Newry councillor highlighted that the council had implemented a disabled access area following requests, ensuring everyone could enjoy the festivities safely and comfortably whilst prioritising inclusivity. She commended Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and all organisers involved in delivering the uplifting event.
