The first ever Newry's Christmas Market has been welcomed by Newry City Councillor Valerie Harte.
The market opened last night at the historic Newry Market bringing festive cheer, shopping and entertainment to the city centre in the run-up to Christmas. It runs every Thursday through to Sunday between now and Christmas.
The market runs Thursday to Sunday each week at the historic Newry Market right through to Sunday 21 December.
Admission is free. Opening times for the markets are Thursday 4pm to 11pm, Friday 3pm to 11pm, Saturday 11am to 11pm and Sunday 12pm to 10pm. For more information and to book Santa, visit newrychristmasmarket.com
Cllr Harte welcomed the opening of the market, highlighting the social benefits for families and residents, the economic boost for local businesses and traders, and the positive impact the event will have in bringing the city centre to life. The market will feature Santa's grotto, a wide range of stalls for shopping and food, spaces for socialising, and music to spark the festive spirit.
Councillor Harte said: "It is fantastic to see initiatives like this in Newry, bringing our city to life in the run-up to Christmas with Santa's grotto, a wide range of stalls for shopping and food, spaces for socialising, and music to spark the festive spirit."
She added: "Newry is a brilliant city and this market showcases the best of what we have to offer. I commend Noelle and Room Angelz on all the hard work they have put in to secure this event. I am delighted to see so many local traders and stallholders involved."
Cllr Harte said the market is a real boost for the city, creating something for people of all ages to enjoy whilst creating a festive atmosphere and supporting local enterprise. She commended the traders and organisers who have worked tirelessly to make the market a reality, stating their dedication has been central to bringing the event together.
