A Public Meeting on the future of Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry is taking place this Wednesday night, and a local MLA is urging everyone to attend and have their concerns heard.
The Daisy Hill Hospital Future Group, in partnership with the Daisy Hill Pathfinder Group, are organising the public meeting and representatives of the Southern Trust’s senior management and surgical teams will be present.
MLA Justin McNulty believes it is vital that the concerns of ordinary people are heard and acted upon at the meeting which is being held at 6pm on Wednesday 22 March in the Miller Suite, Canal Court Hotel.
Mr McNulty said: “It is crucial that the future of Daisy Hill Hospital is safeguarded. The decision to withdraw emergency general surgery from our hospital was met with public outcry. I have been campaigning for the Trust to engage openly and honestly with the local community for quite some time now.
“Wednesday’s public meeting is a golden opportunity for people to lay out their hopes and their anxieties in relation to the future of Daisy Hill and it is vital that we see a strong community presence at that meeting.
“It is not enough to talk amongst each-other about the proposals. We have a chance to put our view directly to the Trust on Wednesday night - I am urging everyone who cares about Daisy Hill to come out and make their voices heard. We owe that to ourselves, our communities, and to future generations.”
The Southern Trust initially on a 'temporary' basis moved Emergency General Surgery services from Daisy Hill Hospital to Craigavon Hospital but recently recommended for the move be made permanant.
A Public Consultation is open to 21 April 2023. For access to all consultation documents and to share your thoughts go to southerntrust.hscni.net
