Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has launched a new campaign throughout its leisure facilities to motivate and encourage more people to engage in a healthy and active lifestyle.

With an energetic look and feel the ‘Be Active’ element of the campaign is a fresh approach to promoting a healthy lifestyle, combining physical activity and recreation activities to encourage a healthier way of living.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said, ‘The ‘Be Active’ campaign is about motivating everyone to undertake more activity. This could be as simple as going for a walk, a swim, a run or working out at the gym. The Council is committed, that ‘all people in Newry, Mourne and Down enjoy good health and wellbeing’ via the districts Community Plan and the ‘Be Active’ campaign is a superb way to help support this outcome.”

Cllr Mulgrew continued, “A healthy and active lifestyle contributes positively to physical, mental and social wellbeing and, as an organisation, we want to encourage all of our citizens to ‘Be Active, Your way, Every day!.”

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Director of Active and Healthy Communities Michael Lipsett said, “Our leisure facilities are accessible to everyone and provide a vast range of activities to include in your active lifestyle. As outlined in the Councils Corporate Plan, the Council wishes to play its part in improving quality of life and reducing health inequalities, primarily through programmes, services and access to open spaces. The ‘Be Active’ campaign will provide the perfect stepping stone to achieving this.”
