Write a commentBooks of condolence have been opened by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council for the victims of the Manchester terrorist attack on Monday night.
Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick officially signed the book on Tuesday 23 May 2017.
Councillor Fitzpatrick said, “Children are among the 22 people who died following the terrorist attack at Manchester Arena. As a mother for four children, I am horrified by the horrendous events in Manchester last night. All our thoughts and prayers go out to the parents who have lost a beautiful, innocent, young child and to the parents waiting to hear of the safety of their loved ones.”
Councillor Fitzpatrick continued, “I join with everyone across the district in paying tribute to the bravery of the emergency services and to the citizens of Manchester who rallied all through the night to support victims and the emergency services in dealing with the aftermath. This is a shocking and horrific attack targeting children and young people who were simply enjoying what young people should. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected in this mindless attack.”
Books of Condolence will be available for signing for two weeks and are located at the Council’s Newry Office, Monaghan Row and Downpatrick Office, Downshire Civic Centre, Ardglass Road. Books of Condolence will also be available at Newry Town Hall and the Down Arts Centre, Downpatrick.
